During the closure of the main office of the Department of National Archives at No. 7, Philip Gunawardena Mawatha, Colombo 07 from 06.04.2019 to 15.04.2019 our valuable document collections were fumigated. We will now shift documents from the old building to the new building in order to facilitate the installation of advanced systems in the repositories that will ensure the long-term protection of the documents. Therefore, we will not be able to issue documents in the repositories to researchers from 22.04.2019 to 03.05.2019 (inclusive).
What can you do?
Research Room: During this period, you will be able to access inventories and documents that are already in the Research Room, microfilms, maps and audio-visual records. Our library books will not be issued during this period. Documents from the repositories will be issued to the public as usual from 06.05.2019 onwards.
Public Relations Office: Processing of applications for extracts and certified copies at the Public Relations Office may be delayed for up to three weeks. Applicants for extracts and certified copies are advised to provide all necessary documentation accurately and in time for the Public Relations Office to be able to process your applications as fast as possible.
